History of the adidas brand
Adidas is one of the most famous brands ever. What is the history behind this fashion and sports icon?
This German company has an iconic name and a characteristic logo of three stripes, which are inherent to this brand and are known by almost everyone in the world. Adidas is currently one of the largest manufacturers of sports and leisure clothing, footwear and accessories in the world.
They started in a laundry room and gradually conquered the world. Every great story has a beginning, and this particular one began in the small German town of Herzogenaurach in Bavaria. Adolf (Adi) Dassler started business together with his brother Rudolf in his mother's laundry, and in 1924 they registered the company "Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik" together. Since then, they have started providing athletes with the best possible sports equipment. A few years later, runner Lina Radke won a gold medal at the Summer Olympics in Amsterdam in their shoes. These were the first rewards and milestones that made this new company famous worldwide.
After the Second World War, however, the brothers split up and went their separate ways. Adi Dassler founded the company "Adi Dassler adidas Sportschuhfabrik" in 1949, which initially had 47 employees. Rudolf subsequently founded his own competing company, which we know today under the name PUMA. Despite the fact that the brothers never reconciled, their competitive struggle was responsible for the fact that both brands rocketed into the public consciousness, which was further supported by the fact that the sports products from both of their workshops reached top quality. In the same year, Adi Dassler registered a shoe with the now well-known adidas 3-Stripes logo. Later, they also started producing the famous Franz Beckenbauer sweatsuits.
In the following years, Adidas creates innovative products that make the company better and better known. The secret of Adi Dassler's success lay on a personal level - he met athletes (some of them even as visitors in Herzogenaurach), listened carefully to what they had to say and constantly observed what could be improved or even invented to support their needs. The best of the best have trusted adidas and its founders since the beginning. This fact will not change for many decades.
In 1970 adidas first introduced the official football, TELSTAR, for the 1970 FIFA World Cup™. The ball was designed to improve visibility on black and white television. It was the start of an amazing partnership that has seen adidas provide the official match balls for every FIFA World Cup to date. In 1972, the Olympic Games were launched in Munich. Just before this sporting event, the adidas company presented a new logo reminiscent of the shape of a trefoil. Today, the collection with this logo - adidas Originals, is known for lifestyle and street fashion.
The adidas portfolio has expanded into more and more sports over the years. At the beginning of the 20th century, adidas focused on sports products inspired by streetwear. In the coming years, new partnerships were established with Joji Yamamoto (2001) and Stella McCartney (2004), but also with exciting brands such as Y-3 (2003) or Porsche Design Sport (2007). The adidas brand offers clothing and footwear for every sport, fashion and style, whether you need equipment for sports or leisure wear.
