GORE-TEX®

Information

Each square inch of the GORE-TEX membrane has nine billion pores. Each of these tiny holes is 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet. This is what makes the membrane in everything in the original GORE-TEX products range waterproof: rain and snow simply cannot get in. It’s just as true for jackets made with GORE-TEX Paclite® technology as it is for running sneakers made with GORE-TEX invisible fit product technology and it’s why all these products are GUARANTEED TO KEEP YOU DRY™.

GORE-TEX®

The early beginnings of the technology development company date back to 1959, when Bill and Genevieve Gore founded a new company in their home in Newark, Delaware. In 1969, their son Bob Gore made a groundbreaking discovery, creating the GORE-TEX membrane. Seven years later, the first sales of the waterproof, windproof and breathable GORE-TEX fabric were made.

And how does it all work?

Each square centimeter of the GORE-TEX membrane has nine billion pores. Each of these pores is 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water. Thanks to this, the membrane in the original GORE-TEX line is waterproof. There is no chance for rain and snow to get inside.

However, water resistance is only half, or rather one third, of the functionality of the material. The GORE-TEX membrane is also breathable and windproof.

Each of these billions of pores is 700 times larger than a water vapor molecule. This enables perfect sweat wicking and explains the excellent breathability of the GORE-TEX material.

The membrane itself is extremely thin (about 0.01 mm). It is therefore necessary to combine the membrane with high-quality textiles. This combination creates a textile with GORE-TEX technology, which is used for both clothing and footwear.
