The company was founded in 1949 in the city of Kobe by Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka as Onitsuka Co. Ltd. In 1977, the Asics brand was created, the name is derived from the Latin " anima sana in corpore sano" (a healthy mind in a healthy body).
