History of the Brooks brand
What about the history of one of the oldest brands in the running world?
It all started in 1914 in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Brooks originally produced shoes for a wide variety of sports. In the mid-1970s, they began to struggle with financial problems and even had to file for bankruptcy protection in 1981. In 2001, the range was cut by more than 50% so that the brand began to specialize only in running. Overall, Brooks focused primarily on developing the best technologies. Thanks to these interventions and changes, in 2011 Brooks Running became the best-selling brand in the specialty running shoe market, a position they held until 2017 with a 25% market share.
Thanks to the cooperation with Olympians, Brooks was the first running brand to use EVA (Ethylene-vinyl acetate) material), air-filled foam in its shoes. This innovation was very quickly adopted by the running world and started to be used by a large range of sports brands. Next came the first shoe that included stabilizing elements for runners with a pronation foot.
The first Brooks model to hit the market and even worn by President Jimmy Carter was the Vantage. For the first time, EVA cushioning foam was used in this shoe, as well as a removable insole that adapts to the foot. Even then, Brooks brought a revolution in the running world and still sets some trends today. Almost every model is improved based on the evaluation of professional and hobby runners.
Brooks is number one in the US! Everyone would expect that the best-selling shoe in the US is a model from the well-known brands Nike or adidas, but this is not the case. A popular choice for residents of the United States is the Brooks Ghost model. This comfortable road shoe is a long-term improved model - suggestions for improvement are mainly provided by their users.
