Joma was founded by Fructoso López and its name is inspired by the name of his son - JoManuel. It starts producing sports shoes already in 1965, at that time the company had only eight employees. In 1969, Joma Sport SA was officially founded. Right after that, the construction of the first production plant with an area of 500 m2 begins, the number of employees also increases to twenty, and the first manual assembly line is installed. After some time, another plant opens and the number of employees continues to grow up to the number of seventy. Joma acquires two new semi-automatic assembly lines. In 1980, Joma exhibited its products for the first time at the ISPO trade fair in Munich.

In 1987, a new shoe cushioning system (CPC Control Press Chamber) was developed, which the company introduced in its brand-new football boots. In the same year, Joma signs his first two sponsorship contracts with Martín Vázquez (Real Madrid) and Francisco López (Sevilla FC).

In addition, a third factory is opened, which is currently also the headquarters of the Joma company. It is located in Portillo de Toledo, Spain. With this new space, Joma has 65,000 m 2 with three automatic lines and more than 300 employees.

In 1992, Joma became the leader in the sale of football boots . In the same year, the Olympic Games took place in Barcelona. 1500m runner Fermín Cacho was sponsored by Joma and won first place. At the same games, Barcelona will win gold - again with Joma equipment. In the following years, companies are opened abroad. The performances of the teams sponsored by the Joma brand are constantly increasing, in 2000 they include, for example, Sevilla FC, Costa Rica National Selection and Honduras National Selection.

In 2011, Joma signs a sponsorship deal with Valencia CF, considered one of the best Spanish football teams. Joma dominates the Spanish football equipment market with over 50% market share. Finally, Joma Sport opened branches in the United States, Europe and Asia. Currently, Joma is active in the markets of more than 70 countries around the world.
